Greg Piepol
Solar Imaging Techniques

NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Greg Piepol of Sungazer.net will speak on current solar imaging and processing techniques used to bring out the sun’s details even during the solar minimum. The talk covers the filters, cameras and software used to photograph the brightest object in the sky.

Highlights include:

- Hands on learning with solar components and cameras
- Visits by the solar worlds leading manufacturers
- Details of how solar filters work
- Using camera control software
- Stacking with Registax
- Photoshop for the Sun

Greg’s presentation covers both beginning and advanced topics and can be applied to nighttime imaging as well. It’s a show not to be missed!

A bit about Greg:
Greg Piepol’s solar images are regularly featured in publications, websites and science locations worldwide. They’ve been seen in NASA’s: The Best of APOD, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, on MSNBC and the History Channel. He was awarded the Griffith Observatory Star Award and the Astronomical Leagues Webmaster of the Year award for promotion of solar awareness. He is a NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador and Meade Instruments 4M Solar Advisor. In 2009, his solar images will tour over 40 countries and 11 US cities as part of the International Year of Astronomy’s “From the Earth to the Universe Exhibit”.
